The place : Grand Suza
Grand Suza is a semi-rural, semi-urban locality in the Littoral region, 40 km from Douala, the economic capital. It is located in the commune of Bonaléa, with an estimated population of more than 35,000 inhabitants.
Apart from Grand Suza, the thirty or so surrounding villages are characterized by a very low human density. Women slightly outnumber men, and young people under 18 years of age make up almost half of the population.
Grand Suza is a melting pot for the Abo group and is populated by groups of people from various regions of Cameroon who have been joined in recent years by English-speaking populations from the northwest and southwest as a result of a conflict that has raged for several years.
The choice of Grand Suza as the location for this local anchoring of the MAM Foundation, responds to the desire to inscribe the project in an intimate and memorial environment. Alain Malong, Marème's husband, is originally from this land of encounters where their parents and child are buried.
